Abstract
ABSTRACT THE CORRELATION BETWEEN PARENTING PATTERN AND ADOLESCENT’S PROSOCIAL BEHAVIOR (A Study of Students in State Senior High School 1 Tanjung Bintang) By Rahmat Diyanto The objective of this research is to find out correlation between parenting pattern and adolescent’s prosocial behavior. This research was conducted in State Senior High School 1 Tanjung Bintang because this school had students in teens ages. This was an explanatory research with quantitative approach, and it used questionnaires in collecting data. Respondents in this research were selected using random sampling technique. The results showed that the value X2 was 23.5 which was obtained from value in the Table of 6.251, so that the conclusion was that there was a significant difference of correlation between parenting pattern and adolescent’s prosocial behavior. First, most parents who had elementary school education and who where farmers followed authoritarian parenting pattern. Authoritarian parents educated their kids with very frequent interventions in their kids’ activities or plans in the future, they often restricted their kids’ activities and exercised excessive controls towards their kids, so that their kids had lower social concerns and the kids were unable to avoid anti social behavior. Second, democratic parents educated by cultivating senses of openness, very frequently involving their kids for discussion, caring, warm approaching, so that their kids had high prosocial behavior, high empathy to other people, their kids were also frequently involved in activities requiring cooperation, and they were able to give respects to other people with different social backgrounds.
