Abstrak Pulp merupakan bahan baku pembuatan kertas. Peningkatan kebutuhan kertas menyebabkan tingginya kebutuhan pulp. Untuk mencegah ekspoitasi hutan, perlu adanya bahan baku pulp ramah lingkungan dan memiliki sifat yang lebih baik. Penggunaan ampas rumput laut Eucheuma cottonii sebagai bahan baku pulp dapat mengurangi penggunaan bahan kimia untuk larutan pemasak dan pemutih pulp H 2O2. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan rasio larutan pemasak dan konsentrasi hidrogen peroksida (H 2O2) yang tepat untuk menghasilkan sifat kimia pulp berbasis ampas rumput laut Eucheuma cottonii terbaik. Perlakuan dalam penelitian ini disusun secara faktorial dalam Rancangan Acak Kelompok Lengkap (RAKL) dengan 3 kali ulangan. Faktor pertama adalah rasio larutan pemasak (R) yang terdiri dari tiga taraf yaitu 2:1 (R1), 4:1 (R2), dan 6:1 (R3). Faktor kedua adalah konsentrasi hidrogen peroksida (H) yang terdiri dari empat taraf yaitu 0% (H0), 2% (H1), 4% (H2), dan 6% (H3). Kesamaan ragam data diuji dengan uji Bartlett dan kemenambahan data diuji dengan Uji Tuckey. Data hasil pengamatan sifat kimia pulp berbasis ampas rumput laut Eucheuma cottonii dilakukan sidik ragam untuk mengetahui ada tidaknya perbedaan antar perlakuan. Data diolah lebih lanjut dengan uji BNT 1% dan 5% (Steel and Torrie, 1995). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rasio larutan pemasak berpengaruh terhadap kadar rendemen, kadar air, kadar selulosa, kadar hemiselulosa, kadar lignin, dan kadar abu pulp ampas rumput laut yang dihasilkan. Hasil terbaik rasio larutan pemasak dan ampas rumput laut diperoleh pada rasio 2:1 dengan kadar rendemen 63,46%, kadar air 95,57%, kadar selulosa 59,15%, kadar hemiselulosa 12,14%, kadar lignin 16,07%, dan kadar abu 1,67%. Dan konsentrasi hidrogen peroksida (H2O2) berpengaruh terhadap kadar hemiselulosa, kadar lignin, dan kadar abu pulp yang dihasilkan, namun tidak berpengaruh terhadap kadar rendemen, kadar air dan kadar selulosa pulp ampas rumput laut yang dihasilkan. Hasil terbaik konsentrasi H2O2 diperoleh dari konsentrasi H2O2 2% dengan kadar rendemen sebesar 60,57%, kadar air 95,94%, kadar selulosa 59,08%, kadar hemiselulosa 11,22%, kadar lignin 15,61%, dan kadar abu 1,43%. Interaksi antara rasio larutan pemasak dan konsentrasi hidrogen peroksida (H2O2) tidak berpengaruh terhadap kadar rendemen, kadar air, kadar selulosa, kadar hemiselulosa, kadar lignin, dan kadar abu pulp ampas rumput laut yang dihasilkan. Kata kunci: rasio larutan pemasak, hidrogen peroksida, pulp, Eucheuma cottonii Abstract Pulp is the raw material for making paper. Increasing demand of paper cause high pulp demand. To prevent the exploitation of forests, other raw materials which enviromental friendly are needed for properties improvement. The usage of Eucheuma cottonii seaweed’s extract as pulp raw material can decrease usage of chemical solutions and H2O2 as bleaching agent. The aim of this experiment was to get liquor-to-seaweed’s extract ratio and hydrogen peroxyde concentration that can give the best chemical properties of pulp. The research in this phase was prepared by a multiple treatment in a structured Complete Randomised Group Design. The factors investigated in this phase were the liquor-to-seaweed’s extract ratio which consisted of 3 levels: 2:1 (R1), 4:1 (R2), and 6:1 (R3), and concentrations of H2O2 which consisted of 4 levels: 0% (H0), 2% (H1), 4% (H2), and 6% (H3). The overall research was carried out in three replications and then the data were analyzed by using Bartlett Test. Tuckey Test was used for their homogenity and additivity. Then they were analyzed further using LSD each at level 1% and 5% to look for differences between the bleaching process (Steel and Torrie, 1995). The results showed that liquor-to-seaweed’s extract ratio has influence in yield, water content, cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin, and ash. The best liquor-toseaweed’s extract ratio results was 2:1 with the yield of 63,46%, water content 95,57%, content of cellulose 59,15%, hemicellulose 12,14%, lignin 16,07%, and ash value 1,67% respectively. And hydrogen peroxyde (H2O2) concentrations has influence in hemicellulose, lignin, and ash, but they have no influence in yield, water content, and cellulose. The best H2O2 concentration result was obtained from the bleaching process through using H2O2 2%, has the characteristic of yield 60,57%, water content 95,94%, cellulose 59,08%, hemicellulose 11,22%, lignin 15,61%, and ash value 1,43% respectively.
