Abstrak (Berisi Bastraknya saja, Judul dan Nama Tidak Boleh di Masukan)

ABSTRACT English is an international language. Almost all countries have adapted English used as a compulsory subject at schools. The national education has decided that English as a foreign language taught in Indonesian schools. The students have to master the four basic language skills. That is listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The main emphasis is on reading skill because it is believed that acquisition of reading in a second or foreign language is priority. This research is to investigate whether there is a correlation between the language attitude and the students’ reading ability or not at Madrasah Aliyah Mathla’ul Anwar Labuhan Ratu and to know whether there is correlation between student’s language attitude and reading ability or not at Madrasah Aliyah Mathla’ul Anwar Labuhan Ratu. In this research, the writer did a test to the students of Madrasah Aliyah Mathla’ul Anwar Labuhan Ratu, This research was quantitative by design. The researcher used ex post facto research design; result was reached after the research done. The writer used two classes of tenth grade in getting data, by giving questionnaire, interview and reading test to the students. One class was as the subject class, which consists of 35 students, and the other class was try-out class, which consist of 15 students. The test focused on the language attitude test and reading test. There was significant correlation between Students’ Attitudes toward English as Foreign Language (EFL) in this research with the students’ reading ability in English. The condition of the class and the environment of teaching and learning such as the material of the lesson (English subject), students’ motivation to learn EFL, the skill of the teacher, the method in teaching English and learning strategy used at Madrasah Aliyah Mathla’ul Anwar Labuhan Ratu really determine how the attitude of the students toward EFL was going to be positive or negative.
