Abstract

Abstrak Telah dilakukan penelitian pembuatan plastik biodegradable dari campuran kitosan dan polipropilen (PP) dengan cara ekstruksi menggunakan alat extruder. Plastik dibuat dalam bentuk lembaran film panjang. Untuk mendapatkan film plastik campuran polipropilen (PP) dan kitosan dilakukan penambahan gliserol 5% dan 10%, dimana setiap variabel gliserol yang digunakan dilakukan variasi komposisi kitosan sebesar 5%, 10% dan 20% dari total sampel yang digunakan yaitu sebanyak 40 gram. Plastik yang dihasilkan kemudian dikarakterisasi dengan Difference Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) untuk mengetahui sifat termal plastik. Diperoleh data bahwa dengan penambahan gliserol menyebabkan terjadinya pergeseran karakteristik plastik, hal ini ditandai dengan berubahnya titik leleh dan titik degradasi plastik dari polipropilen murni. Uji dekomposisi menggunakan Thermalgravimetry Analyser (TGA) menunjukan bahwa pada penambahan gliserol 5%, semakin banyak penambahan komposisi kitosan menyebabkan persen dekomposisi semakin meningkat. Sedangkan untuk penambahan gliserol 10% persen dekomposisi terbesar terjadi pada komposisi penambahan kitosan 5%. Kata Kunci: Polipropilen (PP), Kitosan, Extruder, Gliserol Abstract In this study, preparation of biodegradable plastics consisting of chitosan (CHI) and polypropylene (PP) had been conducted by extrusion technique using Thermo Scientific HAAKE Rheomex OS. In this project plastics were made into longfilm sheets with different compositions which are: 5%, 10% and 20% of chitosan in 40 grams total sample. The usage of glycerol (GLY) varied concentrations 5% and 10 %, is also considered. Using Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) for characterization thermal properties of biodegradable plastics. Showed that, several physical properties such us: melting temperature and decomposed temperature of samples shifted to the lower number compared to the original PP. However percent decomposition which characterized by Thermogravimetry Analyser (TGA) gave different tendency toward addition of 5% and 10% glycerol respectively using 5% glycerol, percent decomposition rise steadily on the enhancement of chitosan concentrations. While in 10% glycerol gave optimum percent decomposition on the sample mixture using 5% chitosan. Keywords: Polypropylene (PP), Chitosan (CHI), Extruder, Glycerol.
