Abstrak (Berisi Bastraknya saja, Judul dan Nama Tidak Boleh di Masukan)

Writing is a skill in which we express the ideas, feelings, and thoughts arranged in words, sentences and paragraphs using eyes, brain, and hand (Raimes, 1983:76). According to KTSP 2006, the students are expected to be able to communicate in English in spoken and in written forms. Writing is very difficult for them, although they had given a topic to write, they are can not automatically start to write because they are can not organize their ideas chronologiclly. The objectives of this research were 1). in general, to find out whether there is an Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) or not and 2) specifically, to find out whether there ing narrative text in terms of content, grammar, form, vocabulary, and mechanic or not. This research was conducted based on the Experimental method. It applied the control group pretest posttest design from the idea suggested by Hacth&Farhady. This experimental method deals with two groups; an experimental class and a control class. The subjects of the research were the second year students of SMA N 1 Natar Lampung Selatan in 2009/2010 academic year. Both of experimental and control class consisted of 30 students. The classes were determined randomly. The result of the test shows that there is a significant improvement of score from pre test to post test after being taught by CTL in the experimental class. The improvement of the mean is from 57.57 up to 73.39. The application of the method also improves all aspects of writing; content 11.33 up to 15.24, grammar 10.58 up to 13.66, organization 11.66 up to test in control class shows that 25 students (80%) got score lower than 65 and only 5 students class shows that 23 students (78%) got score less than 65 and 7 students (22%) got score higher than 65. In general, the result of the pre test in both of the classes were not satisfying since most of the students got score below 65, and only few students got score above 65. class show that there were 21 students (70%) got scores less than 65 and only 9 students (30%) got score higher than 65. Meanwhile, the (22%) who got scores less than 65 and the rest, 23 students (78,00 %) got scores more than 65. It could be inferred that the improvement in the experimental class was much bigger than the improvement in the control class. The researcher used T-Test at the level significance (0.05) to prove whether the hypothesis is accepted or not. The computation showed that t-ratio (5.496) is much bigger than the t-table (1.671), it means t-ratio>t-table. It can be concluded that there is a significant improvement in the application of CTL the hypothesis is accepted.
