Abstrak

Kampas rem adalah komponen yang digunakan sehari-hari dalam berkendara dan berfungsi untuk memperlambat atau menghentikan laju kendaraan. Dari penelitian penulis membuat spesimen kampas rem kereta api dengan menggunakan bahan komposit. Bahan komposit ini merupakan bahan yang ramah lingkungan yaitu seperti phenolik resin, fly ash, NBR (Nitrile Butadiene Rubber), BaSO4, grafit, serbuk besi. Komposisi bahan yang digunakan adalah 60%, 15%, 10%, 5%. Pembuatan spesimen dilakukan dengan temperatur yang diinginkan dan ditekan pada penekanan sebesar 5 ton dan ditahan selama 30 menit. Selanjutnya adalah proses curing dengan menggunakan furnace selama 4 jam dengan temperatur 150°C. Setelah mendapatkan spesimen yang diinginkan dengan variasi yang ditentukan lalu dilakukan proses pengujian keausan dengan standar ASTM G 99-95. Pada hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa laju keausan terendah dicapai pada komposit NBR 15%. Nilai rata-rata keausan permukaan atas yang didapat sebesar 1.97x10-6 mm3/mm dan nilai rata-rata keausan permukaan bawah didapat sebesar 2.00x10-6 mm3/mm Itu dikarenakan semakin banyak persentase NBR maka semakin tinggi kemampuan ketahanan aus komposit menahan beban gesek. Hasil pengujian keausan komposit belum cukup rendah laju keausaan karena pendistribusian partikel yang kurang merata pada saat proses fabrikasi dan pencampuran partikel serbuk. Foto SEM dilakukan untuk mengetahui ketahanan aus dan mengidentifikasi penyebab kegagalan pada komposit. Hasil foto SEM menunjukkan struktur ikatan pada komposit Na153 lebih baik jika dibandingkan komposit Na151. Kata kunci: komposit kampas rem, phenolic resin, fly ash, NBR (Nitrile Butadiene Rubber), grafit, serbuk besi, keausan, SEM ABSTRACT EFFECT OF INCREASING NBR (NITRILE BUTADIENE RUBBER) TOWARD THE WEARABILITY OF FLY ASH PHEBOLIC COMPOSITE ON BRAKE CANVASS Brake canvass is a componen that being used everyday when driving and it has function to decelerate or stopped vehicle speed. Our research was make a brake canvass specimen for train using composites. The composite is made using materials that good for nature, like phenolik resin, fly ash, NBR (Nitrile Butadine Rubber), BaSO4, graphite, iron powder. The composition of the materials for composite is 60%, 15%, 10%, 5%. The manufacture of the specimen is done by holding time methode at desired temperature and compacted in the suppression of 5 tons and held for 30 minutes. Furthermore is curing process with furnace for 4 hours with temperature at 150°C. After obtaining the desired specimen with variations specified and conducted the testing process of wear and tear with ASTM G 99-95. The result is that the composite with 15% of NBR have the lowest wear and tear rate. Average results of wear and tear on upper surface of composite is 1,97x10-6 mm3/mm, and average results of wear and tear on under surface is 2.00x10-6 mm3/mm. That is because the more the percentage of NBR, the higher the wearrability capabilities composite to withstand loads friction. The test results of composite wear and tear rate is not low enough, because of the uneven distribution during the fabrication process and mixing the powder particles. SEM photograph conducted to determine the wearability and identify the cause of failure in composites. Results of SEM photo shows the bonding in the composite structure Nal53 better than composite Nal51.
