Abstrak (Berisi Bastraknya saja, Judul dan Nama Tidak Boleh di Masukan)
Endapan kerak merupakan suatu permasalahan serius yang terjadi pada peralatan-peralatan industri, karena terdapatnya senyawa-senyawa pembentuk kerak dalam air. Kalsium karbonat merupakan salah satu endapan penyusun kerak yang menjadi masalah serius pada sebagian besar proses industri yang melibatkan air garam. Penelitian tentang ekstrak kemenyan (Styrax benzoin dryand) sebagai inhibitor kerak kalsium karbonat (CaCO3) dilakukan pada konsentrasi larutan pertumbuhan 0,05; 0,075; dan 0,1 M dengan variasi inhibitor 50, 150, 250, dan 350 ppm, pada suhu 90°C. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa inhibitor kemenyan mampu menghambat pembentukan kerak kalsium karbonat dengan persentase 10-75%. Kemampuan ini bergantung pada konsentrasi inhibitor kemenyan yang ditambahkan kedalam larutan pertumbuhan. Analisis Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) menunjukkan bahwa morfologi permukaan kerak CaCO3 dengan penambahan inhibitor tidak teratur dan rusak sedangkan analisis menggunakan Particle Size Analyzer (PSA) menunjukkan bahwa distribusi ukuran partikel kerak CaCO3 menjadi lebih kecil dengan adanya penambahan inhibitor, serta analisis menggunakan X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) menunjukkan jumlah kerak CaCO3 berkurang dengan adanya penambahan inhibitor. Kata kunci : inhibitor, kalsium karbonat, Styrax benzoin. abstract THE EFFECT OF KEMENYAN (Styrax benzoin dryand) AS AN INHIBITOR OF CALCIUM CARBONATE (CaCO3) SCALE FORMATION) Scale deposit is a serious problem that occured in the industrial equipments, due to the presence of scale-forming compounds in water. Calcium carbonate is one of the constituent scale deposit that becomes a serious problem in most industrial processes involving salt water. The research of kemenyan (Styrax benzoin dryand) extracts as an inhibitor of calcium carbonate scale has been carried out at consentrations of growth solutions 0,05; 0,075; and 0,01 M with inhibitor variations 50, 150, 250 and 350 ppm, at 90°C. The result shows that kemenyan extracts inhibits calcium carbonate scale formation at range 10 – 75 %. This ability depends on the concentration of the inhibitor added in to growth solution. Analysis Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) showed that the surface of morphology of CaCO3 scale with the addition of inhibitors is irregular and broken while the analysis using the Particle Size Analyzer (PSA) showed that the particle size distribution CaCO3 scale becomes smaller with the addition of inhibitors, and analysis using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) indicates the amount of CaCO3 scale is reduced by the addition of inhibitors.
