Abstract

Oreochromis niloticus is one of the fresh waters fish has fast growth and efficiency to diet formulation. The Suitability of velvet bean meal as a mayor source of plant source in diets for tilapia (O. niloticus) was tested by examining growth, diet intake and survival rate. Tilapia at an initial average length 9,72 cm ± 0,24 cm, average weight 9,42 g ± 0,09 g and density 2 fish/liter. This research was condueted random complete design with five treatments and three replications. The treatments are formulated diets with soy bean meal (SBM) protein was gradually replaced by protein from velvet bean meal (VBM) (0, 25, 50, 75, 100% respectively). The result shows that the treatments give not significant different for absolute growth weight, spesific growth rate, diet intake, and survival rate (P>0,05) with up 100% substitution of SBM with VBM. The best treatments is diet 25% soy bean meal : 75% velvet bean meal with absolute growth weight 17,83 g, spesific growth rate 1,76%, diet intake 88,79%, and survival rate 86,33%.
