Abstrak

Tandan Kosong Sawit (TKS) sebagai hasil samping produksi perkebunan kelapa sawit merupakan limbah padat yang mengandung lignoselulosa. Senyawa lignoselulosa mengandung 45 % selulosa, 20 – 25 % hemiselulosa dan 27 – 37 % lignin. Lignin dapat dimanfaatkan secara komersial sebagai bahan pengikat, perekat, pengisi, surfaktan, produk polimer dan dispersan. Pada penelitian ini telah dilakukan isolasi lignin dari sampel TKS melalui delignifikasi, menggunakan variasi konsentrasi NaOH 6%, 8%, 10% dan 15%, selanjutnya dilakukan sulfonasi menggunakan Ca(HSO3)2. Uji kualitatif terhadap lignin dan kalsium lignosulfonat yang diperoleh dilakukan menggunakan spektrofotometri FTIR, NMR dan SEM. Hasil uji kualitatif FTIR terhadap lignin menunjukkan serapan pada bilangan gelombang 3448 cm-1, 2939 cm-1, 1635 cm-1, 1327 cm-1, 1126 cm-1 dan 871 cm-1. Hasil uji FTIR terhadap kalsium lignosulfonat menunjukkan serapan khas gugus sulfonat pada gelombang 1126 cm-1, 1049 cm-1dan 864 cm-1. Spektrum NMR lignin menunjukkan pergeseran kimia pada 6,6 ppm; 7,3 ppm; 3,7 ppm dan 3,8 ppm. Pergeseran kimia pada 3,7 ppm menunjukkan adanya gugus hidroksil pada unit siringil dan guaiasil, pergeseran kimia pada 3,8 ppm menunjukkan adanya proton metil dari unit siringil dan guaiasil. Hasil uji SEM menunjukkan morfologi permukaan lignin lebih rapat dan lebih teratur dibandingkan morfologi permukaan kalsium lignosulfonat. Berdasarkan hasil uji yang telah dilakukan dapat disimpulkan bahwa, kalsium lignosulfonat dapat disintesis melalui sulfonasi lignin TKS. Kata kunci : FTIR, kalsium lignosulfonat, lignin, TKS, SEM dan NMR. ABSTRACT Palm Empty Fruit Bunch (EFB) as a byproduct of palm oil industries is solid waste containing lignocellulose. Lignocellulose containing 45 % cellulose, 20-25 % hemicellulose and 27-37 % lignin. Lignin can be used commercially as binders, adhesives, fillers, surfactants, polymer products and dispersants. In this study has been conducted isolation the sample of lignin through delignification, using a variation of the concentration of NaOH 6%, 8%, 10% and 15%, subsequently sulfonation process performed using Ca(HSO3)2. Analysis FTIR data of lignin showed absorption at wave number: 3448 cm-1, 2939 cm-1, 1635 cm-1, 1327 cm-1, 1126 cm-1 dan 871 cm-1. Spekctrum of calcium lignosulfonate showed typical absorption sulfonate group appears at wave number: 1126 cm-1, 1049 cm-1dan 864 cm-1, NMR spectra of lignin showed chemical shift at 6.6 ppm; 7.3 ppm; 3,7 ppm and 3,8 ppm. Appearance the chemical shift at 3,7 ppm indicate fact the alcohol group of guaiasil siringil unit and the chemical shift at 3.8 ppm indicate the proton methyl of siringil and guaiasil. The SEM test result showed the surface morphology of lignin more closely and regular than calcium lignosulfonate. Based on the result of the tes, it can be concluded that, calcium lignosulfonate can be synthesized through sulfonation lignin EFB.
