Abstrak (Berisi Bastraknya saja, Judul dan Nama Tidak Boleh di Masukan)

The aim of this research was to find out whether there was an improvement of students’ reading comprehension after being taught using Task Based Learning (TBL) technique and to invent the problems faced by the students. TBL technique referred to language learning in which the students learnt from doing task for a communicative purpose in real-life situations. This research was done based on the consideration that the students still got low scores in reading comprehension test. TBL technique was considered applicable and useful in improving reading comprehension. This research applied one group pre-test and post-test design. The population of this research was the second grade students of SMPN 10 Bandar Lampung. Two classes were selected in this research, one as a try out class and the other as an experimental class. Pretest-posttest items were employed to obtain the data. Besides that, the questionnaire was distributed in order to invent the problems faced by the students during teaching learning process. The collect data were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 17.0. Based on the calculation of t-test, the result showed that the students’ mean score of post-test in experimental class (68.00) was higher than mean score of pre-test (59.17) with the 8.83 gained score. T-value was higher than t-table (10.600>2.064). The t-test also revealed that the result was significant (p<0.05, p=0.000). Thus, it was concluded that there was an improvement of students’ reading comprehension after being taught using TBL technique. The second research question, the problems faced by the students were time limitation and still have confused of using listing task in TBL technique.
