Abstract

This research aimed to find out whether teaching using one to one interview technique can significantly increase the students’ speaking achievement and what to know aspect of speaking that mostly increases after they are taught by using one to one interview technique. To apply the objective of the research, researcher use One-Group Pretest- Posttest Design and SPSS 16. The population of this research was taken from random sampling of first grade class of SMA IMMANUEL Bandar Lampung. The sample of this research is X.1 where pre-test and posttest were administered in this class. The data were analyzed by using Paired- Samples t-test through by means of Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) Version 16.0 for windows. The results show that there is significant increase of students’ speaking achievement after the implementation of one to one interview in which t-value (8.041) > t-table (2.079). Meanwhile, the aspect that mostly increases is vocabulary (3.177) while comprehension (4.461) is the second. In other words, the hypothesis was accepted. Therefore, it can be conclude that one to one interview technique can be used to teach speaking skills at SMA Immanuel Bandar Lampung.
