Abstract

The aims of this research were (1) to find out whether there is improvement of students’ reading comprehension achievement of narrative text after being taught through Somebody Wanted But So (SWBS) strategy, and (2) to find out which aspect of reading skills increased the most after the students were taught through Somebody Wanted But So (SWBS) strategy. The research was conducted on the second grade students of SMP Negeri 15 Bandar Lampung. The sample of this research was class VIII-B which consisted of 28 students. This sample was choosen by using lottery random sampling. One group Pretest Posttest was used as the design of the research. The instrument was reading test. The data were collected using test. The test was reading test in form of multiple choice with 30 items. Pretest and posttest were used to see the difference before and after being taught through Somebody Wanted But So (SWBS) strategy. The result showed that there was improvement of students’ reading comprehension achievement after being taught through SWBS strategy. It was proven by the increase of students’ mean score from pretest (28,50) to posttest (55,32) and the gain was 26,82. With respect to aspects of reading skills, finding supporting details contributed the highest gain (120), followed by main idea (53), inference (32), vocabulary (11), and reference (9) respectively.
