Abstrak (Berisi Bastraknya saja, Judul dan Nama Tidak Boleh di Masukan)

The aim of this study was to find out whether there was an improvement of students’ descriptive text writing after the implementation of realia. This research was quantitative research. The subjects of this research were 25 students of class VIII.A at MTs. Raudlatul Muta’allimin Kasui, Way Kanan. Writing tests were used to collect the data. Data instruments were found valid based on the curriculum and the relibility was analyzed by using rank order correlation. Pretest and posttest were administered to measure the students’ ability in writing descriptive text before and after treatments. The scoring system was based on five aspects of writing, i.e., content, organization, vocabulary, grammar, and mechanic. The scores of five aspects from the pretest to posttest can be reported as follow. In terms of content, the score improvement from 9.4 up to 12.8, organization from 8.5 up to 12.3, vocabulary 7.5 up to 10.8, grammar from 5.6 up to 10.0, and mechanic from 7.5 up to 10.3. The highest aspect that improved was grammar. The data analysis showed that t-value (14.326) was hihger that t-table ( 2.064) at significant level of 0.05. The result showed that there was a statistically significant improvement of the students’ writing with the significant level p<0.05. This suggests that writing through realia facilitates students to improve their writing.
