Diplomasi pendidikan merupakan suatu metode yang memakai unsur / bentuk pendidikan sebagai instrumen diplomasinya. Diplomasi pendidikan juga menjadi salah satu pilar utama dalam implementasi diplomasi publik. Pada umumnya, wujud nyata pengimplementasian diplomasi pendidikan yaitu melalui program beasiswa pertukaran pelajar. Program Youth Exchange & Study (YES) Kennedy-Lugar merupakan program pertukaran pelajar yang dikeluarkan oleh Amerika Serikat ke negaranegara bersignifikan muslim di dunia tepat pasca peristiwa 11 September 2001. Sebagai salah satu negara dengan populasi muslim terbanyak di dunia, Indonesia menjadi salah satu negara tujuan implementasi diplomasi pendidikan Amerika Serikat ini. Perbedaan pandangan yang terjadi akibat kesalahpahaman dunia Muslim terhadap Amerika Serikat pasca peristiwa 11 September 2001 menyebabkan Amerika Serikat menggunakan pendidikan sebagai implmentasi diplomasi publiknya. Salah satunya ialah dengan menggunakan program YES ini. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dan mendeskripsikan peran diplomasi pendidikan Amerika Serikat melalui program YES. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif. Metode penelitian menggunakan pengambilan data primer dan sekunder. Penelitian ini menghasilkan bahwa AS mampu meningkatkan mutual understanding dan merubah citra AS dari yang kurang baik menjadi lebih baik melalui empat peran program ini yaitu: 1. Meningkatkan rasa keakraban, mengubah image atau pandangan mengenai suatu negara; 2. Meningkatkan rasa apresiasi, menciptakan pandangan atau persepsi baik/positif; 3. Meningkatkan hubungan dengan suatu negara; 4. Mempengaruhi sikap masyarakat, meningkatkan dukungan masyarakat terhadap posisi suatu negara. Kata kunci: diplomasi publik, diplomasi pendidikan, Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES), Amerika Serikat, Indonesia, exchange students, 11 September 2001 THE ROLE OF AMERICAN EDUCATION DIPLOMACY AGAINST INDONESIA (STUDIES IN YES KENNEDY-LUGAR PROGRAM) Education diplomacy is a method that uses elements / forms of education as an instrument of diplomacy. Educational diplomacy has also become one of the main pillars in the implementation of public diplomacy. In general, the realization of the implementation of educational diplomacy is through a scholarship exchange program of students. The Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange & Study Program (YES) is a student exchange program issued by the United States to Muslim countries in the world right after the events of 11 September 2001. As one of the most populous Muslim countries in the world, the destination country for the implementation of this United States education diplomacy. Differences of views that occur due to misunderstanding of the Muslim world against the United States after the events of 11 September 2001 caused the United States to use education as an implication of public diplomacy. One of them is by using this YES program. This study aims to identify and describe the role of US diplomacy education through the YES program. This research is a descriptive research. The research method uses primary and secondary data collection. This study resulted in the US being able to improve mutual understanding and change the image of the US from the less good to better through the four roles of this program are: 1. Increase sense of familiarity, change the image or view of a country; 2. Enhance a sense of appreciation, create a view or perception of good / positive; 3. Improving relationships with a country; 4. Influencing public attitudes, increasing public support for a country's position.
