Komunikasi interpersonal dapat menunjukan bagaimana orang-orang membangun hubungan dengan sekitarnya, hal ini juga terjadi pada kaum gay, namun pada gay pembentukan hubungan melalui komunikasi interpersonal ini terjadi dalam kondisi dan situasi yang sedikit berbeda dari masyarakat Indonesia, stigma dan penolakan terhadap kaum gay yang tidak dapat secara terang-terangan berinteraksi dan membangun hubungan layaknya heteroseksual. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan pola komunikasi interpersonal yang terjadi dalam hubungan gay, melalui tahapan-tahapan agar lebih mudah dipahami dalam penyampaianya. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori 5 tahapan hubungan oleh Joseph A. Devito. Metode penelitian ini bersifat naratif kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah teknik wawancara mendalam dengan 8 informan anggota komunitas Gaylam Lampung menggunakan metode informan purposive, yaitu dengan kriteria berumur 20-40 tahun, pernah atau sedang memiliki pasangan gay. Hasil penelitian ini diperoleh bahwa teori lima tahap hubungan oleh Joseph Devito terbukti dapat mendeskripsikan proses terbentuknya hubungan diantara gay dengan ditemukan adanya pengaruh motif tertentu yang mendasari terbentuknya perbedaan hubungan, yang digolongkan kedalam tiga kategori berbeda, yakni pola hubungan berurutan lengkap, pola hubungan tidak berurutan lengkap, dan pola hubungan tidak berurutan dan tidak lengkap. Kata kunci : Gay, Komunikasi Interpersonal, Hubungan, Tahapan Hubungan. ABSTRACT Interpersonal communication can show how people build relationships with the surrounding, this also happens to gays, but the gay formation of relationships through interpersonal communication occurs in conditions and situations that are slightly different because the stigma of Indonesian society and the refusal of gays make them can not openly interact and build relationships like heterosexuals. The purpose of this study is to describe the interpersonal communication patterns that occur in Gay relationships, through stages to be more easily understood. This study uses the theory of 5 stages of relationship by Joseph A. Devito. This research method is narrative qualitative. Data collection techniques used are in-depth interview techniques with 8 informants Gaylam community members Lampung using the method of purposive informan, with criteria aged 20-40 years, have or are having a gay couple. The results of this study found that the theory of five stages of relationship by Joseph Devito proved to describe the process of relationship formation among gays with the discovery of the influence of certain motives underlying the discrepancy relationship, which is classified into three different categories, namely the pattern of complete sequence, and the pattern of relationships are not sequential and incomplete.
