ABSTRACT The Self-Concept Construction of Tattoo Users (Symbolic Interaction Study of Tattoo Users in Bandar Lampung) Oleh Heru Nugroho Tattoo which today becomes lifestyle for some certain circles used as part of their styles. Basically tattoo which is on the tattoo users does have their own meaning or a symbol that represents their feelings. The purpose of this study to explain and analyze the construction of self-concept tattoo users in Bandar Lampung. The theory used in this research is the theory of symbolic interaction using constructivism approach. This research uses qualitative research type with data collection technique through observation and in-depth interview with informant that is six tattoo user in Bin Ban Tattoo Bandar Lampung. The results of this study indicate that the tattoo user has a positive self concept, positive, and negative, and has three important components on the concept itself namely mind, self, and society. Positive self-concept occurs where the environment supports it using tattoos and tattoo users also feel happy and comfortable with the tattoos that use. The positive concept also occurs where the surrounding environment does not support it using tattoos but tattoo users still feel happy and do not care about the environmental response. While the negative self-concept occurs where the surrounding environment does not support it and tattoo users also do not like and uncomfortable with the existing tattoo in his body. Keywords: symbolic interaction, construction, constructivism, self-concept, and tattoo ABSTRAK Konstruksi Konsep Diri Pengguna Tato di Kota Bandar Lampung (Studi Interaksi Simbolik Pada Pengguna Tato di Bandar Lampung) Oleh Heru Nugroho Tato yang saat ini menjadi gaya hidup bagi sebagian kalangan tertentu dijadikan sebagai bagian dari style pada dirinya. Pada dasarnya tato yang ada pada tubuh pengguna tato tersebut memang mempunyai arti bagi diri mereka sendiri atau sebuah simbol yang mewakili perasaan mereka. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk menjelaskan dan menganalisis konstruksi konsep diri pengguna tato di Bandar Lampung. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teori interaksi simbolik dengan menggunakan pendekatan konstruktivisme. Penelitian ini menggunakan tipe penelitian kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui observasi dan wawancara mendalam dengan para informan yaitu enam pengguna tato di Bin Ban Tattoo Bandar Lampung. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pengguna tato memiliki konsep diri yang positif, positif, dan negatif, serta mempunyai tiga komponen penting pada konsep dirinya yaitu mind, self, dan society. Konsep diri positif terjadi mana kala lingkungan mendukungnya menggunakan tato dan pengguna tato juga merasa senang dan nyaman dengan tato yang digunakannya. Konsep positif juga terjadi mana kala lingkungan sekitarnya tidak mendukungnya menggunakan tato tetapi pengguna tato tetap merasa senang dan tidak peduli terhadap respon lingkungan. Sedangkan konsep diri negatif terjadi mana kala lingkungan sekitarnya tidak mendukungnya dan pengguna tato juga tidak suka dan tidak nyaman dengan tato yang ada ditubuhnya. Kata kunci: interaksi simbolik, konstruksi, konstruktivisme, konsep diri, dan tato.
