ABSTRACT This research aims to know the procedure of the conferment of custom’s title, meaning the conferment of custom’s title and function the conferment of custom’s title. This research uses qualitative approach. The focus of this research research is the procedure, meaning, and function of the title of Lampung Sungkai Pepadun custom. Data collection techniques in this study consisted of in-depth interviews, documentation, and observation. The research informants were 4 persons determined according to the criteria of informant determination. The result of the research shows that the procedure of the conferment of custom’s title includes: (1) Ruyang-Ruyang Mandi Serag Sepi (2) Gawi Nguruk Di Way (3) Gawi Nyuntan Pepadun. The meaning of the conferment of custom’s title to the society of Lampung Pepadun is where a person has earned a position in a favors, obtaining a clear status in regular customs in order to arrange custom and arranged so that it can be well-organized. The function of the conferment of custom’s title, is as a status difference, whether it is the status given by the family from generation to generation or the status achieved by buying. ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui prosedur pemberian gelar adat, makna pemberian gelar adat dan fungsi pemberian gelar adat. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Fokus penelitian penelitian ini berupa prosedur, makna, dan funsi pemberian gelar adat lampung sungkai pepadun. Tehnik pengumpulan data pada penelitian ini terdiri dari wawancara mendalam, dokumentasi, dan observasi. Informan penelitian berjumlah 4 orang yang ditentukan sesuai dengan kriteria penentuan informan. Hasil penelitian didapatkan bahwa prosedur pemberian Gelar Adat meliputi: (1) Ruyang-Ruyang Mandi Pagi Serag Sepi (2) Gawi Nguruk Di Way (3) Gawi Nyuntan Pepadun. Makna dari pemberian gelar adat pada masyarakat Lampung Pepadun adalah dimana seseorang telah mendapatkan kedudukan didalam suatu kebuaian, mendapatkan status yang jelas dalam adat supaya teratur dalam mengatur adat dan tersusun sehingga akan berlangsung secara tertib. Fungsi pemberian adat adalah sebagai suatu perbedaan status, baik itu status yang diberikan oleh keluarga secara turun temurun atau status yang diraih dengan cara membeli. Kata kunci : Prosedur, Makna, Fungsi, Gelar Adat Lampung, Pepadun Sungkai.
