This case study is about the role of local elite politics toward the society independence of Metro City society in taking the voting decision in the region’s general election of 2010, the purpose of study, to know; 1) the factors that affected the society’s indefence of Metro City in taking the voting decision in the region’s general election of 2010, 2) the influence of elite politics toward the independence of Metro City society in taking the voting decision in the region’s general election of 2010, 3) the purpose of the local elite politics that influenced the voting decision of Metro City society in the region’s general election of 2010. This study was taken to analyze the role of local elite politics toward the independence of Metro City society in taking the voting decision in the region’s general election of 2010 with the qualitative approach, the study is often called as naturalism approach, because the study is done in its nature. Some also call it as ethnography approach because at the beginning of the approach was more used to do the anthrophology research. The results of the study; 1) There were factors that influenced the independence of Metro City society in the voting decision in the region’s general electionof 2010, namely; the influence of the local elite politics tat came frome certain level, for the most is the cultural people also the head of society organization, religion head and birocracy chiefs. 2) The purpose of local elite politics that influenced the decision of Metro City society in the region’s general election of 2010, especially to show to the major and vice major candidates of the big imfact of the power they have towards the society’s politics decision. Keywords : Local elite politics, Independence, The region’s general election Studi Penelitian ini mengenai Peranan elit politik lokal terhadap kemandirian masyarakat Kota Metro dalam keputusan memilih pada pilkada Tahun 2010, tujuan penelitian, untuk mengetahui; 1) Faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi kemandirian masyarakat Kota Metro dalam keputusan memilih pada Pilkada tahun 2010, 2) Pengaruh elit politik lokal terhadap kemandirian masyarakat Kota Metro dalam keputusan memilih pada Pilkada tahun 2010, 3) Tujuan elit politik lokal mempengaruhi keputusan memilih masyarakat Kota Metro pada Pilkada Tahun 2010. Penelitian ini di laksanakan untuk menganalisis peranan elit politik lokal terhadap kemandirian masyarakat Kota Metro dalam keputusan memilih pada pilkada Kota Metro tahun 2010, dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Pendekatan ini sering disebut penelitian naturalistik karena penelitiannya dilakukan pada kondisi alamnya, ada juga yang menyebut sebagai penelitian etnografi karena pada awalnya pendekatan ini lebih banyak digunakan untuk penelitian antropologi. Hasil Penelitian; 1) Terdapat beberapa faktor yang mempengaruhi kemandirian masyarakat Kota Metro dalam keputusan memilih pada Pilkada tahun 2010, antara lain : adalah pengaruh elit politik lokal yang berasal dari beberapa kalangan, utamanya adalah tokoh kultural serta pimpinan lembaga organisasi masyarakat, tokoh agama dan pimpinan birokrasi. 2) Tujuan elit politik lokal mempengaruhi keputusan memilih masyarakat Kota Metro pada Pilkada Tahun 2010 terutama untuk menunjukkan kepada calon Walikota dan Wakil Walikota atas besarnya pengaruh yang dimilikinya terhadap pilihan politik masyarakat. Kata Kunci: Elit Politik Lokal, Kemandirian, Pemilihan Umum Kepala Daerah.
