Abstract

This study aims to examine and explain the causes and effects of school dropouts located in Air Hitam District, West Lampung Regency. The approach used in this study is a qualitative approach. The research informants were 8 people, namely 4 child informants who had dropped out of school and 4 parent informants / guardians of child informants as data reinforcers, the determination was made using Snowball and Sequental techniques. Retrieval of data in research using nonparticipant observation, interviews, documentation and literature. The results of the study showed that the factors causing school dropouts consisted of two factors, namely internal and external factors. Internal factors, namely the culture of lazy learning and laziness to go to school, external factors, namely the economic condition of the family that is inadequate or unstable and access roads to where the residence is still poor. The impact of school dropouts is lack of confidence and the difficulty of finding a job (social impact), limited insight into education (cultural impact), and increasing parents' burden (economic impact). Keyword: Factors Causes, Impacts, Drop Out Children Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk untuk mengkaji dan menjelaskan tentang faktor penyebab dan dampak anak putus sekolah yang berlokasi di Kecamatan Air Hitam Kabupaten Lampung Barat. Pendekatan yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah pendekatan kualitatif. Informan penelitian sebanyak 8 orang, yaitu 4 informan anak yang mengalami putus sekolah dan 4 informan orangtua/wali informan anak sebagai penguat data, penentuan dilakukan menggunakan teknik Snowball dan Sequental. Pengambilan data pada penelitian menggunakan observasi nonpartisipan, wawancara, dokumentasi dan studi pustaka. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa faktor penyebab anak putus sekolah terdiri dari dua faktor, yakni faktor internal dan eksternal. Faktor internal yaitu budaya malas belajar dan malas berangkat ke sekolah, faktor eksternal yaitu kondisi perekonomian keluarga yang tidak memadai atau tidak stabil dan akses jalan tempat tinggal menuju ke sekolah yang masih buruk. Dampak anak putus sekolah yakni kurang percaya diri dan sulitnya mencari pekerjaan (dampak sosial), terbatasnya wawasan tentang pendidikan (dampak budaya), serta menambah beban orang tua (dampak ekonomi).
