Abstrak

Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian vitamin C terhadap penyusutan bobot badan dan persentase penyusutan bobot badan selama pengangkutan sapi. Penelitian ini merupakan operation research yang dilaksanakan dengan metode survei. Proses penelitian dilakukan dengan mengikuti perjalanan pengangkutan sapi dari Kecamatan Karang Endah, Kabupaten Lampung Tengah, Provinsi Lampung menuju Palembang, Provinsi Sumatera Selatan. Jumlah sampel yang digunakan masing-masing sebanyak 68 ekor untuk sapi yang mendapatkan perlakuan vitamin C dan yang tidak mendapatkan perlakuan vitamin C. Apabila dalam 1 kali perjalanan terdapat 18 ekor sapi yang diangkut dengan 2 truk, maka akan terdapat 9 ekor sapi yang masing-masing diberikan dan tidak diberikan perlakuan. Sapi yang bernomer ganjil diberikan perlakuan vitamin C sedangkan yang genap tidak diberikan perlakuan. Pengamatan dilakukan sebanyak 6 kali perjalanan pengangkutan sapi. Dosis vitamin C yang diberikan sebanyak 500 mg dalam bentuk tablet dan diberikan secara oral pada saat pemberian identitas sapi. Penimbangan sapi dilakukan sebelum dan sesudah pengangkutan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya pengaruh pemberian vitamin C terhadap persentase penyusutan bobot sapi selama perjalanan (P<0,05), dimana persentase penyusutan bobot dalam perjalanan pada sapi yang diberikan vitamin C lebih rendah dibandingkan dengan persentase penyusutan bobot sapi yang tidak diberikan vitamin C, namun pemberian vitamin C tidak berpengaruh terhadap penyusutan bobot badan sapi selama pengangkutan (P>0,05). Pemberian vitamin C mampu menyebabkan penghematan sebesar Rp 647.595,00 dalam satu kali pengangkutan. Kata kunci : pengangkutan sapi, vitamin C, penyusutan bobot sapi This research aims to find out the influence towards the weight of cows that were given and not given with the vitamin C and also the percentage of cow’s weight lost that were given and not given with the vitamin C. This research was an operation research that used the survey method. The research was done by following the cow transport from Karang Endah sub-district, Central Lampung Regency, Lampung Province to Palembang, South Sumatera Province. Number of sample that used was 68 cows that were given and not given the preferential treatment with vitamin C. If there were 18 cows which were being transported in 2 trucks for once, so 9 bulls got the vitamin C treatment and so did the amount of cows that were not get the vitamin C. The Cow that get the odd number got vitamin C treatment while the cows with the even number did not get the treatment. Thus, it took 6 trips for the research. The dose of Vitamin C that is given to each cow was 500mg of tablet and it was given orally and the identity giving as well, after being treated with vitamin C, each cow was weighed and moved into the truck. The research showed that there was an influence of the vitamin C to the percentage of cow’s weight lost along the cows transport, where the percentage of weight lost for the cows that were given with vitamin C was lower than the cows that did not get any vitamin C, and the effect of the vitamin C treatment was saving of Rp. 647,595.00 for every single transport.
