ABSTRACT   ANTIBACTERIAL TEST OF KITOLOD LEAF EXTRACTS  (Isotoma longiflora (L.) C. Presl) ON THE CONJUNCTIVA OF WISTAR WHITE RATS INFECTED WITH Staphylococcus aureus     By   Retno Mareintika       Background: Conjunctivitis is an inflammatory process caused by infection and non-infection characterized by vascular dilatation, cellular infiltration, and exudation that can affect anyone and is highly contagious. Kitolod leaf ethanol extract contains secondary metabolite compounds namely antibacterial. This study aims to determine the antibacterial test of kitolod leaf extract (Isotoma longiflora (L.) C. Presl) against the conjunctiva of wistar infected with Staphylococcus aureus. Methods: The research design used true experimental with pretest-posttest control group design using experimental animals as research objects. In this design, two groups were chosen randomly. The number of samples was 30 rats. Results: The mean score of the number of Staphylococcus aureus in the pretest K(-) = 14.30; K(+)=14.62 ; P1=12, 84; P2=14.08; P3=14.92 and the mean score of the number of Staphylococcus aureus in the pretest K(-)= 12.04 K(+)=4.08; P1=8,3; P2=7.58; P3=7,88. The results of improving conjunctivitis symptoms by administering Staphylococcus aureus on day 8 and kitolod leaf extract on day 12 to day 19 resulted in improvement in conjunctivitis symptoms with the disappearance of red eyes, inflammation, and edema of the eyelids. Conclusion: Kitolod leaf extract (Isotoma longiflora (L.) C. Presl) ha ve antibacterial against Staphylococcus aureus   Keywords: Conjunctivitis, Kitolod leaf, Staphyloccus aureus, White rat
