Abstract

In this study, has been carried out producing of mangrove wood activated carbon as adsorbent through physical activation and chemical activation. Mangrove wood activated carbon adsorbents obtained used to adsorption purple textile dye code 4. The physical activation process finished at 500 0C for 1 hour and chemical activation was perfomed using H3PO4 10% activator for 24 hour. Characterization of mangrove wood activated carbon was carried out by using Scanning Electron Microscopy-Energy Dispersive X-Ray (SEM-EDX) to determine the surface morphology activated carbon. The adsorption test of mangrove wood activated carbon to purple textile dye code 4 aim to find out optimum conditions of activated carbon among others namely adsorbent weight, pH, contact time, concentration and determine adsorption isotherm model. Adsorption of purple textile dye code 4 by mangrove wood activated carbon occurs at optimum conditions with an adsorbent weight of 0,08 grams at pH 3 with contact time for 120 minutes and solution concentration 100 ppm. The adsorption isotherm of purple textile dye code 4 tend to follow the Freundlich adsorption isotherm model with correlation coefficient value (R2 ) was 0,9607.
