Abstract

This research aimed to investigate whether or not there is a significant improvement of the students’ achievement in writing a narrative text after they are taught by using Picture Series and to find out which aspect of writing improves the most because of the implementation of Picture Series. The population of this research was tenth grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Bandarlampung in academic year 2022/2023. This research was quantitative research with one group pre-test and post-test design. Writing test was used as the instrument in the pretest and post-test. The result showed that there was significant difference of students’ writing achievement after they were taught by using Picture Series. It could be seen from the significant value of the test which was lower than alpha (0.00<0.05) and the t-value (14.632) was higher than t-table (2.0452). It was also revealed that content was the aspect of writing with the highest improvement by having the gain of 0.383. The N-gain scores of the other aspects were 0.306 for organization, 0.225 for language use, 0.214 for vocabulary, and 0.143 for mechanic. Briefly, it could be said that the implementation of Picture Series was effective to improve the students’ achievement in writing narrative text. Keywords: writing, narrative text, Picture Series.
