Abstrak

abstrak Dalam industri manufaktur dibutuhkan material yang memiliki sifat-sifat seperti logam. Komposit merupakan material alternatif yang dapat digunakan untuk memenuhi kebutuhan tersebut. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengetahui kekuatan tarik komposit serat rami dengan fraksi volume sebesar 5%, 10%, dan 15%. Serat rami digunakan sebagai bahan pengisi komposit, karena harganya relatif murah dibandingkan serat sintetis. Serat rami yang digunakan sebagai penguat diberikan perlakuan alkali NaOH 5% selama 2 jam. Metode yang digunakan dalam pembuatan adalah metode hand lay-up arah serat kontinyu dengan fraksi volume 5%, 10%, dan 15%. Dari hasil pengujian dan analisa data didapatkan bahwa kekuatan tarik komposit serat rami 15% lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan fraksi volume 10% dan 5%, dengan kekuatan tarik sebesar 33.35 MPa. Analisa data menggunakan pengamatan SEM pada penampang patahan, dapat diketahui kegagalan dari komposit berupa fiber pullout, matrik cracking, fiber breaking, dan bekas pullout . Dari analisa data, diketahuhi bahwa semakin banyak fraksi volume maka semakin tinggi kekuatan tariknya. Kata kunci : komposit, serat rami, orientasi serat kontinyu, resin polyester, kekuatan tarik, SEM. Abstract In the manufacturing industry needed a material that has properties such as metal. Composite is an alternative material that can be used to meet those needs. The purpose of this study was to determine the tensile strength of flax fiber composites with volume fraction of 5%, 10%, and 15%. Ramie fiber is used as a composite filling material, because it is relatively inexpensive compared to synthetic fibers. Ramie fibers are used as reinforcement gived 5% NaOH alkaline treatment for 2 hours. The method is a method used in the manufacture of hand lay-up direction with a continuous fiber volume fraction of 5%, 10%, and 15%. From the test results and analysis of the data showed that the tensile strength of ramie fiber composites 15% higher than the volume fraction of 10% and 5%, with a tensile strength of 33.35 MPa. Data were analyzed using SEM observations on the cross-fault, it can be seen the failure of composites such as fiber pullout, matrix cracking, fiber breaking, and former pullout. From data analysis, diketahuhi that the more the higher the volume fraction of its strength. Keywords: composite, flax fiber, continuous fiber orientation, polyester resin, tensile strength, SEM.
