Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui latar belakang pemberedelan Majalah Tempo pada tahun 1994 dan hubungan pemberedelan tersebut pada kebangkitan pers nasional. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini, yaitu metode penelitian historis (sejarah). Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini, yaitu teknik kepustakaan, teknik dokumentasi, dan teknik wawancara. Adapun teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah teknik analisis data historis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa memang ada pemberedelan pada 21 Juni 1994 oleh Orde Baru kepada ketiga media, yakni Editor, Detik, dan Tempo. Pemberedelan itu merupakan bentuk kegusaran Orde Baru atas kritik yang dikeluarkan oleh Tempo melalui Majalah Tempo Edisi 11 Juni 1994. Selain itu, peristiwa tersebut juga menjadi momentum forum organisasi jurnalis daerah untuk membentuk organisasi wartawan skala nasional. Akhirnya, pada tahun 1994 pun terbentuk Aliansi Jurnalis Independen (AJI) sebagai antithesis PWI yang hanya diam saja ketika ketiga majalah tersebut nasibnya diambang kematian. Saat di ambang kematian, media-media baru hadir pasca pemberedelan Majalah Tempo. Kata kunci: Pemberedelan, Majalah Tempo, Orde Baru. This study aims to determine the background of the banning of Tempo Magazine in 1994 and the relationship between the banning and the rise of the national press. The method used in this research is historical research method (history). Data collection techniques used in this study, namely library techniques, documentation techniques, and interview techniques. The data analysis technique used is historical data analysis techniques. The results of the research show that there was indeed a ban on June 21, 1994 by the New Order to the three media, namely Editor, Detik, and Tempo. The banning was a form of the New Order's anger at the criticism issued by Tempo through the June 11, 1994 edition of Tempo Magazine. Apart from that, this event also became the momentum for a regional journalist organization forum to form a national scale journalist organization. Finally, in 1994 the Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI) was formed as the antithesis of PWI, which remained silent when the fate of the three magazines was on the verge of death. In the verge of death, new media comes when Tempo Magazine was ban. Keywords: Banning, Tempo Magazine, New Order.
