Abstrak (Berisi Bastraknya saja, Judul dan Nama Tidak Boleh di Masukan)
The different usage between Indonesia and English prepositions leads the students to make errors. They were confused how to use them appropriately in writing. Realizing the fact mentioned above, the researcher was interested in finding out the types of errors the students made the most in using preposition in writing.This research is aimed at giving description of students’ errors in using preposition in writing in terms of the types and the proportions of the errors based on surface strategy taxonomy. The subjects were the first grade students of SMAN 3 Unggulan Martapura Oku Timur. This research was a descriptive qualitative research. In collecting the data, the researcher used writing task. The data show that on the basis of surface strategy taxonomy, the students committed three errors types of the four errors types. There are 55 errors in omission (27.36%), 64 errors in addition (31. 84%) and 82 errors in misformation (40.80%). The students did not make misordering errors. It might be that they have understood about how to place preposition in their sentences because the orders of preposition in Indonesia language and English are the same. In reference to the result, it can be concluded that the most errors happened in misformation. The students made a lot of errors in this terms because the lack of knowledge, they did not master the use of preposition well. So, they failed to use the appropriate preposition in their sentences. Therefore, the teacher should give explanation about the errors in preposition as clear as possible to the students not only the meaning but also the usage.
