Background: Diabetic retinopathy is a microvascular complication of diabetes mellitus. One of the risk factors for diabetic retinopathy is the duration of type 2 diabetes mellitus. The progressiveness of this disease affects visual acuity. This study was to determine the relationship between the duration of type 2 diabetes mellitus and visual acuity of diabetic retinopathy patients at Lampung Eye Center Hospital. Methods: This research was a cross-sectional study and used total sampling. The variables studied were the duration of type 2 diabetes mellitus (<5 years, 5-10 years, and >10 years) and visual acuity (visual-threatening diabetic retinopathy and non-visual threatening diabetic retinopathy). Statistical tests used chi-square. Results: There were 102 patients with the highest prevalence of ≥ 60 years old (42.2%), female (55.9%), normal body mass index (35.3%), non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (56.9%), normal blood pressure (63,7%), and no comorbidities (78,4%). The univariate analysis resulted in the highestproportion of type 2 DM duration >10 years (39.2%) and visual threatening diabetic retinopathy (55.9%). The chi-square test showed that there was arelationship between the duration of type 2 diabetes mellitus and visual acuity (p-value = 0.000). Conclusion: There was a relationship between the duration of type 2 diabetes mellitus and visual acuity of diabetic retinopathy patients at Lampung Eye Center Hospital. Keywords :diabetic retinopathy, duration of type 2 diabetes mellitus, visual acuity Latar Belakang: Retinopati diabetik merupakan komplikasi mikrovaskular diabetes melitus. Salah satu faktor risiko retinopati diabetik adalah lama menderita diabetes melitus tipe 2. Progresifitas penyakit ini berpengaruh terhadap tajam penglihatan. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan lama menderita diabetes melitus tipe 2 dengan tajam penglihatan pada pasien retinopati diabetik di Rumah Sakit Lampung Eye Center. Metode: Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian cross sectional dan menggunakan total sampling. Responden berjumlah 102 pasien retinopati diabetik.Variabel yangditeliti adalah lama diabetes melitus tipe 2 (<5 tahun, 5- 10 tahun, dan >10 tahun) serta tajam penglihatan (visual threatening diabetic retinopathy dan non visual threatening diabetic retinopathy). Uji statistik menggunakan chi-square. Hasil: Responden berjumlah 102 pasien dengan prevalensi tertinggi berusia ≥ 60 tahun (42,2%), perempuan (55,9%), indeks massa tubuh normal (35,3%), non proliferative diabetic retinopathy (56,9%), tekanan darah normal (63,7%), dan tidak komorbid (78,4%). Analisis univariat didapatkan proporsi tertinggi pada lama DM tipe 2 >10 tahun (39,2%) dan tajam penglihatan berupa visual threatening diabetic retinopathy (55,9%). Uji chi square menunjukkan terdapat hubungan lama menderita diabetes melitus tipe 2 dengan tajam penglihatan (p value = 0,000). Kesimpulan: Terdapat hubungan antara lama menderita diabetes melitus tipe 2 dengan tajam penglihatan pada pasien retionpati diabetik di Rumah Kata Kunci: lama menderita diabetes melitus tipe 2, retinopati diabetik, tajam penglihatan Lampung Eye Center.
