Abstrak (Berisi Bastraknya saja, Judul dan Nama Tidak Boleh di Masukan)
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan praktik pembelajaran matematika SMP di Thailand dalam upaya peningkatan fundamental mathematical competencies dan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif. Pengambilan subjek dalam penelitian ini menggunakan teknik cluster sampling. Subjek tersebut adalah siswa kelas M2 (VIII SMP) Yupparaj Wittayalai School, Thailand sebanyak 6 siswa yaitu 2 siswa berkemampuan rendah, 2 siswa berkemampuan sedang dan 2 siswa berkemampuan tinggi. Instrumen yang digunakan yaitu angket, lembar observasi, lembar tes uraian matematika, dan pedoman wawancara. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan yaitu reduksi data, penyajian data dan penarikan kesimpulan. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa fundamental mathematical competencies dan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa baik. Selama proses pembelajaran, guru menggunakan teknik-teknik bertanya seperti pertanyaan pemahaman konsep, pertanyaan analisis dan penalaran serta pertanyaan evaluasi dan penilaian, guru mengoneksikan konsep lewat lingkungan tampak mata siswa, guru menyajikan konsep disertai contoh dan non-contoh, guru selalu memberikan evaluasi harian, guru memberikan umpan balik (feedback) atas pekerjaan siswa, serta kekonsistenan dalam belajar matematika juga menjadi salah satu faktor yang mempengaruhi kemampuan mendasar matematika dan kemampuan berpikirnya. Kata kunci: pembelajaran matematika, best practice, fundamental mathematical competencies, kemampuan berpikir kritis. This study aims to describe the learning practic of mathematics in a junior high school in Thailand in an effort to improve fundamental mathematical competencies and students' critical thinking skills. This research is a qualitative research with a descriptive approach. Subjects of this study were taken using cluster sampling technique. The subjects were students of class M2 (8 th grade of Junior High School) Yupparaj Wittayalai School, Thailand as many as 6 students, which were 2 students in low category of math ability, 2 students in moderate category of math ability and 2 students in high category of math ability. The instruments used were questionnaires, observation sheets, mathematical essay test, and interview guidelines. The data analysis techniques used were data reduction, data display and verification/conclusion. Based on the results of data analysis, it is concluded that the fundamental mathematical competencies and critical thinking skills of students are good. During the learning process, teacher used questioning techniques such as concept understanding questions, analysis and reasoning questions as well as evaluation and assessment questions, teacher connected concepts through the students' visible environment, teacher presented concepts with examples and non-examples, teacher always provided daily evaluations, teacher provided feedback on students’ work, and consistency in learning mathematics is also one of the factors that affect fundamental mathematical competencies and thinking skills.
