Masalah pada penelitian ini adalah kesulitan membaca permulaan peserta didik SD Negeri 12 Metro Pusat. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk menganalisis serta mendeskripsikan kesulitan membaca permulaan peserta didik; faktor yang melatarbelakangi serta; solusi untuk mengatasi kesulitan membaca permulaan peserta didik kelas I SD Negeri 12 Pusat. Metode penelitian yang digunakan kualitatif dengan model Miles dan Huberman. Sumber data penelitian terdiri dari peserta didik, pendidik dan orang tua peserta didik. Subjek penelitian peserta didik kelas I SD Negeri 12 Metro Pusat. Teknik pengumpulan data penelitian terdiri dari tes membaca permulaan, observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kesulitan membaca permulaan peserta didik kelas I belum bisa mengidentifikasi huruf abjad; pembalikan huruf dalam kata; penghilangan huruf pada awalan atau akhiran kata; pengubahan kata yang bermiripan atau familiar; kemampuan mengingat bentuk dan bunyi huruf yang rendah; keragu-raguan dalam membaca; dan penggunaan tanda baca titik ( . ) dan koma ( , ). Faktor yang melatar belakangi kesulitan membaca permulaan peserta didik diantaranya faktor intelektual yang mencakup tingkat kecerdasan anak yaitu kemampuan membaca peserta didik yang rendah dibanding dengan teman- temannya dan; faktor psikologis berupa kurangnya motivasi serta minat belajar peserta didik. Solusi dalam mengatasi kesulitan peserta didik dalam membaca permulaan berupa penggunaan media pembelajaran membaca peserta didik yang menarik dengan bantuan objek visual, pemberian perlakuan khusus jam tambahan bagi peserta didik yang berkesulitan dalam membaca, pendampingan belajar orang tua bersama peserta didik belajar di rumah, dan kerja sama orang tua dan pendidik agar perkembangan membaca peserta didik tidak hanya dilakukan di sekolah saja. Kata Kunci: kelas rendah, kesulitan membaca, peserta didik i ABSTRACT ANALYSIS OF READING DIFFICULTY INITIATION OF LOWER CLASS STUDENTS AT SD NEGERI 12 METRO PUSAT By ARIF RAHMAN The problem in this study was the difficulty in early reading among students at SD Negeri 12 Metro Pusat. The purpose of this study was to analyze and describe the difficulties in early reading among students; the underlying factors; and the solutions to overcome the early reading difficulties of first-grade students at SD Negeri 12 Pusat. The research method used was qualitative with the Miles and Huberman model. The data sources consisted of students, educators, and parents of the students. The subjects of the study were first-grade students at SD Negeri 12 Metro Pusat. The data collection techniques included early reading tests, observations, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study showed that the early reading difficulties among first-grade students included an inability to identify alphabet letters; letter reversals in words; omission of letters at the beginning or end of words; changes in words that were similar or familiar; low ability to remember the shapes and sounds of letters; hesitation in reading; and the use of period (.) and comma (,) punctuation. The factors underlying the early reading difficulties included intellectual factors, such as the students' low reading ability compared to their peers, and psychological factors, such as a lack of motivation and interest in learning. The solutions to address students' early reading difficulties included the use of engaging reading media with visual aids like posters adjusted to the alphabet letters based on the objects' names in the pictures, providing additional special hours for students with reading difficulties, parent-assisted learning at home, and cooperation between educators and parents to ensure that reading development did not only occur at school.
