The imbalance in the number of extension workers in Batanghari and Sekampung Districts, East Lampung Regency, regarding the number of fostered areas and the number of fostered groups is a major challenge for extension workers in carrying out their roles, so it needs more attention in order to achieve independent farmer groups. For this reason, the author is interested in conducting this study with the aim of analyzing factors related to the role of agricultural extension, knowing the role of agricultural extension, and analyzing the role of agricultural extension in developing rice farming groups in Batanghari and Sekampung Districts, East Lampung Regency. The research was conducted from October to November 2023 on 12 agricultural extension workers and 76 rice farmers in Batanghari and Sekampung Districts, East Lampung Regency. The research method used is a survey method with a quantitative descriptive approach. The analysis method used is descriptive statistical analysis and the Spearman Rank test. The results of the study showed that the age of the extension worker was significantly related to the role of agricultural extension workers in developing rice farming groups, while formal education, non-formal education, number of fostered groups, length of service of the extension worker, and distance of the fostered area were not related. The role of agricultural extension workers as disseminators of information/innovation, facilitators, and consultants was in the category of playing a role, while the role of agricultural extension workers as educators, supervisors, monitors, and evaluators was in the category of not playing a role. Farmers' perceptions of the role of agricultural extension workers in this study were not significantly related to the development of farmer groups in Batanghari District and Sekampung District, East Lampung Regency. Keywords: Factors, Rice Farmer Groups, Farmer Group Development, Role of agricultural extension workers Kesetimpangan jumlah penyuluh yang ada di Wilayah Kecamatan Batanghari dan Kecamatan Sekampung Kabupaten Lampung Timur terhadap jumlah wilayah binaan dan jumlah kelompok binaan menjadi tantangan besar bagi penyuluh dalam menjalankan perannya, sehingga perlu mendapat perhatian lebih, guna mencapai kelompok tani yang mandiri. Untuk itu penulis tertarik melakukan penelitian ini dengan tujuan untuk menganalisis faktor-faktor yang berhubungan dengan peran PPL, mengetahui peran PPL, serta menganalisis peran PPL dalam pengembangan kelompok tani padi sawah di Kecamatan Batanghari dan Kecamatan Sekampung Kabupaten Lampung Timur. Waktu penelitian dilakukan pada bulan Oktober hingga November 2023 pada 12 orang PPL dan 76 orang petani padi sawah di Kecamatan Batanghari dan Kecamatan Sekampung Kabupaten Lampung Timur. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode survei dengan pendekatan deskriptif kuantitatif. Metode analisis yang digunakan adalah analisis statistik deskriptif dan uji Rank Spearman. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa umur penyuluh berhubungan signifikan terhadap peran penyuluh pertanian dalam pengembangan kelompok tani padi sawah, sedangkan pendidikan formal, pendidikan non formal, jumlah kelompok binaan, masa kerja penyuluh, dan jarak wilayah binaan tidak berhubungan. Peran PPL sebagai disseminator informasi/inovasi, fasilitator, dan konsultan dalam kategori berperan, sedangkan peran PPL sebagai edukator, supervisi, monitoring, dan evaluator dalam kategori tidak berperan. Persepsi petani terhadap Peran PPL dalam penelitian ini tidak berhubungan nyata dengan pengembangan kelompok tani Kecamatan Batanghari dan Kecamatan Sekampung Kabupaten Lampung Timur.
