Abstrak (Berisi Bastraknya saja, Judul dan Nama Tidak Boleh di Masukan)

The objective of the research was to investigate the effect of crossword puzzle on students' vocabulary achievement after the students were taught by using crossword puzzle. This research is quantitative research with one group pretest and posttest design. This research was conducted at SMPN 1 Pringsewu, involving 30 eight-grade students by employing quantitative research with vocabulary tests in the form of pretest and posttest for the data collection. The result of the hypotheses testing with a paired sample t-test showed that the p-value (0.000) was less than the significant level (0.05). It shows that teaching vocabulary using crossword puzzles effectively improved students' vocabulary achievement among students in the eighth grade of Junior High School, especially in SMPN 1 Pringsewu. Activities such as memorizing more words, finding new words from the key in crossword puzzles, categorizing the words based on vocabulary content aspects, finding appropriate vocabulary by searching in the dictionary and discussing with friends through the crossword puzzles cause students' vocabulary improvement.
