Abstrak

Telah dilakukan penelitian pembuatan plastik biodegradable dari campuran limbah plastik polipropilen (PP) dan kitosan menggunakan metode tanpa pelarut. Plastik dibuat dalam bentuk lembaran film panjang. Untuk mendapatkan film plastik campuran PP dan kitosan telah dilakukan dengan memvariasikan komposisi kitosan sebesar 5%, 10% dan 20% dari jumlah total sampel yang digunakan yaitu sebanyak 40 gram dengan dan tanpa penambahan asam stearat. Hasil analisis FTIR menunjukkan terjadi pergeseran bilangan gelombang sebelum dan sesudah penambahan asam stearat yang menunjukkan adanya interaksi polarpolar dan nonpolar-nonpolar antara PP, kitosan dan asam stearat. Sedangkan untuk mengetahui morfologi plastik campuran PP/Kitosan tanpa dan dengan penambahan asam stearat dilakukan analisis menggunakan SEM. Hasil analisis SEM menunjukkan permukaan plastik tanpa penambahan asam stearat tidak homogen sedangkan campuran dengan penambahan asam stearat menunjukkan permukaan plastik lebih homogen. Untuk mengetahui sifat termal plastik dilakukan analisis menggunakan DSC dan TGA. Hasil analisis DSC dan TGA memperlihatkan adanya penambahan asam stearat sebagai pendispersi pada film plastik PP/Kitosan dapat menurukan nilai Tm dan laju dekomposisi masingmasing plastik. Kata kunci : Polipropilen (PP), Kitosan, Asam Stearat (The research has been carried out about of polypropylene and chitosan using solid state method. In this project plastics were made into long film sheets using different compositions with are 5%, 10% and 20% of chitosan in 40 grams total sample with and whithout addition of stearic acid. The result of the IR spectrum of functional group analysis with FTIR to change wavelength. It is because interaction polar-polar and interaction nonpolar-nonpolar among PP, chitosan and stearic acid. In this ptoject, SEM was used to identify the morphology of PP/Chitosan plastics with and whitout addition of stearic acid. The result of analysis by using SEM showed the plastic surface without the addition of steraic acid was less homogenous but blends with the addition of steraic acid showed more homogenous. To know the thermal properties of plastics was observed using DSC and TGA analysis. DSC and TGA results showed adding stearic acid in the PP/Chitosan mixture will decrease a melting temperature (Tm) and the rate of decomposition.
