Self-esteem merupakan cara pandang seseorang terhadap dirinya. Pembentukkan self- esteem dapat dipengaruhi oleh berbagai hal, salah satunya adalah kedekatan hubungan antara ayah dan anak. Kedekatan hubungan ini dapat dilihat dari pola komunikasi yang terjalin. Berdasarkan teori keterikatan (attachment theory), semakin aman pola keterikatan anak maka semakin dekat dan sehat hubungan tersebut. Pada anak perempuan ayah menjadi figur laki-laki pertama yang dilihatnya. Namun, ayah sering kali absen dalam pengasuhan sehingga meminimkan peranannya dalam perkembangan anak. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peran ayah melalui pola komunikasi yang terjalin antara ayah dan anak dalam membangun self-esteem pada anak perempuan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan melakukan wawancara kepada sembilan mahasiswi FISIP Universitas Lampung. Berdasarkan wawancara, mayoritas mahasiswi memiliki pola komunikasi demokratis dengan ayahnya, kemudian diikuti oleh pola komunikasi otoriter, dan pola komunikasi permisif. Pola komunikasi demokratis, yaitu pola komunikasi yang responsif, terbuka, dan mendukung dari ayah cenderung mempromosikan self-esteem yang positif. Sementara itu, pola komunikasi yang kurang terbuka dan responsif, seperti pola komunikasi otoriter dan pola komunikasi permisif dapat berkontribusi pada self-esteem yang lebih rendah. Self-esteem can be formed in various ways, one of which is the close relationship between father and daughter. The closeness of this relationship can be seen from the communication patterns that are established. Based on attachment theory, the safer the child's attachment pattern, the closer and healthier the relationship. For girls, father becomes the first male figure she sees However, fathers are often absent from parenting, thus minimizing their role in the child's development. Therefore, this study aims to determine the role of fathers through communication patterns that are established between fathers and children in building self-esteem in girls. This study used a qualitative method by interviewing nine female students of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of Lampung. Based on interviews, the majority of female students have a democratic communication pattern with their fathers, followed by an authoritarian communication pattern, and a permissive communication pattern. Democratic communication patterns, which is responsive, open, and supportive communication patterns from fathers tend to promote positive self-esteem. Meanwhile, less open and responsive communication patterns, such as authoritarian communication patterns and permissive communication patterns can contribute to lower self-esteem.
