Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui faktor-faktor yang melatarbelakangi hobi bermain adu merpati kolong dan perjudian dengan perantara adu merpati kolong serta untuk menjelaskan dampak dari pelaksanaan kegiatan adu merpati bagi masyarakat di sekitar Kolongan New Golf di sekitar Kolongan New Golf di Desa Sabah Balau Kecamatan Tanjung Bintang Kabupaten Lampung Selatan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan fenomenologi, dan proses pengumpulan data menggunakan metode wawancara mendalam, observasi partisipan dan dokumentasi. Jumlah infoman dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 8 orang dengan rincian 3 orang penghobi, 3 orang penjudi dan 2 orang masyarakat sekitar. Hasil penelitian menunjukan faktor yang melatarbelakangi pigeon lovers bermain adu merpati kolong adalah sebagai hobi, aktivitas ekonomi, meredakan stress dan menjalin silaturahmi dengan pigeon lovers lainnya. Terdapat pula modal sosial yang diperlukan dalam hobi adu merpati kolong ini. Kemudian terdapat 4 faktor yang mendasari penjudi pinggiran melakukan pertaruhan faktor tersebut adalah: ekonomi, iseng belaka, adrenalin, dan hiburan. Para pelaku pertaruhan mengalami proses belajar yang terjadi melalui interaksi secara intens dengan orang terdekat. Terdapat dua dampak yang ditimbulkan dengan adanya kegiatan adu merpati kolong yaitu dampak positif dan dampak negatif. Kata Kunci: Joki, Modal Sosial, Asosiasi Diferensial This study aims to explore the factors behind the hobby of participating in loft pigeon competitions and the practice of gambling through these competitions, as well as to explain the impact of such activities on the community around Kolongan New Golf in Sabah Balau Village, Tanjung Bintang Subdistrict, South Lampung Regency. The research employs a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, and data collection was carried out through in- depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation. The study involved eight informants, consisting of 3 pigeon hobbyists, 3 gamblers, and 2 local residents. The findings indicate that the motivations for pigeon lovers to engage in loft pigeon competitions include hobby, economic activity, stress relief, and fostering social connections with fellow enthusiasts. Social capital also plays a significant role in sustaining this hobby. Additionally, four factors were identified as driving peripheral gamblers to place bets: economic needs, mere curiosity, adrenaline, and entertainment. These gambling behaviors are often learned through intense interactions with close individuals. The study reveals that the practice of loft pigeon competitions generates both positive and negative impacts on the surrounding community. Keywords: Jockey, Social Capital, Differential Association
