Abstract
Biochar merupakan hasil pirolisis bahan organik yang berpotensi meningkatkan kualitas media tanam dan pertumbuhan tanaman. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas biochar kayu meranti yang telah disimpan selama empat tahun terhadap pertumbuhan bibit sengon laut (Falcataria moluccana) serta menentukan dosis optimal penggunaannya. Penelitian menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan lima perlakuan dosis biochar: 0% (kontrol), 5%, 10%, 15%, dan 20%, masing-masing dengan 10 ulangan. Parameter yang diamati meliputi tinggi dan diameter bibit, panjang akar, jumlah dan persentase bintil akar efektif, warna daun, bobot kering total, nisbah tajuk-akar, dan indeks mutu bibit (IMB). Hasil menunjukkan bahwa pemberian biochar berpengaruh nyata terhadap sebagian besar parameter pertumbuhan bibit, kecuali panjang akar. Dosis 20% memberikan hasil terbaik pada sebagian besar parameter, termasuk bobot kering akar, warna daun, dan indeks mutu bibit. Dengan demikian, biochar meranti yang telah disimpan selama empat tahun masih efektif dan dosis 20% direkomendasikan untuk meningkatkan kualitas pertumbuhan bibit sengon laut. Kata kunci: Amelioan, biochar, pembenah tanah, shorea Biochar, a product of organic material pyrolysis, has the potential to improve growing media quality and plant growth. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of meranti wood biochar stored for four years on the growth of Falcataria moluccana seedlings and to determine the optimal application dose. A Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was used with five treatments of biochar doses: 0% (control), 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%, each replicated 10 times. Parameters observed were seedling height, diameter thick, root length, number and percentage of effective root nodules, leaf color, total dry weight, shoot-root ratio, and Seedling Quality Index (SQI). The results showed that biochar application significantly affected most seedling growth parameters, except root length. The 20% dose was the best performance in root dry weight, leaf color, and overall seedling quality. Thus, shorea biochar stored for four years remains effective, and a 20% dose is recommended to enhance the growth quality of Falcataria moluccana seedlings.
