Abstract

This study aims to improve students' speaking skills by using the dubbing technique for eighth-grade students at MTs Miftahul Ulum Kotabaru Central Lampung. The research was conducted to address the common challenges students face in speaking English, such as lack of confidence, limited vocabulary, and insufficient practice. The dubbing technique, which involves replacing the original audio of a video with a translated or different language soundtrack, was employed as an innovative teaching technique to enhance students' speaking abilities. The research adopted a quantitative approach with a repeated measures design, involving three treatment sessions where students practiced dubbing and were assessed on their speaking skills. The results of the study showed significant improvement in students' speaking skills after the implementation of the dubbing technique. The mean scores of students' speaking assessments increased from 2.1 in the first video to 2.9 in the third video, indicating a positive learning progression. The data analysis using Repeated Measure Anova revealed a significant improvement in students' speaking skills, particularly in accuracy, pronunciation, and fluency. The findings suggest that the dubbing technique effectively enhances students' English-speaking abilities by providing them with opportunities to practice pronunciation, intonation, and vocabulary in a contextual and engaging manner.
