ABSTRAK Sungai Way Sekampung mengalir dari arah hulu ke hilir sungai melalui beberapa daerah dalam wilayah Kabupaten Lampung Timur dan Kabupaten Lampung Selatan. Beberapa kegiatan pemanfaatan sungai yang dilakukan masyarakat pada sepanjang hulu sungai Way Sekampung adalah penambangan pasir, outlet pembuangan limbah cair rumah tangga, sumber air kegiatan pertanian, dan lain-lain. Penurunan kualitas lingkungan perairan tersebut dapat diidentifikasi dari perubahan komponen fisik, kimia dan biologi perairan di sungai. Dengan pertimbangan faktor-faktor tersebut di atas, maka perlu dilakukan penelitian deteksi kualitas air menggunakan benthos di Sungai Way Sekampung, Metro Kibang Lampung Timur berdasarkan perbedaan musim (hujan dan kemarau) agar lingkungan perairan sungai dapat dikelola dan dipertahankan kualitasnya secara berkelanjutan baik untuk aktivitas manusia maupun organisme perairan lainnya. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode survey dengan pengamatan waktu yang berbeda, dimana hulu perairan Sungai Way Sekampung dijadikan sebagai lokasi penelitian. Data yang diperoleh merupakan data primer berupa pengukuran dari parameter kualitas air seperti fisika, kimia serta biologi (benthos). Hasil penelitian adalah 1) Komposisi benthos di lokasi penelitian Sungai Way Sekampung, segmen Metro Kibang Lampung Timur terdiri 17 filum dan 61 genus. 2) Struktur komunitas benthos di lokasi penelitian Sungai Way Sekampung, Metro Kibang Lampung Timur sebagai berikut : a. Indeks Keanekaragaman (H) berkisar antara 1,12 – 2,20. b. Indeks kemerataan (E) berkisar antara 0,63 – 0,99. c. Indeks dominansi (D) berkisar antara 0,13 – 0,46. d. Indeks kesamaan (S) berkisar antara 11,76% – 47,05%. 3) Hubungan antara struktur benthos di lokasi penelitian Sungai Way Sekampung, Metro Kibang Lampung Timur adalah : a. Terdapat hubungan berbanding terbalik antara nilai indeks pencemaran (IP) dengan nilai indeks keanekaragaman (H’) dengan nilai r = -0,57. b. Pengaruh kualitas air (IP) terhadap nilai Indeks Keanekaragaman (H’) benthos berdasarkan nilai determinasi (R) = 33%. 4) Kualitas air di lokasi penelitian Sungai Way Sekampung, segmen Metro Kibang Lampung Timur ditinjau dari nilai Indeks Pencemaran termasuk dalam baku mutu baik sampai tercemar ringan untuk peruntukan Kelas III. Kata Kunci : benthos, indeks pencemaran, kualitas air, Way Sekampung The Use Of Benthos In Detecting Of The Quality Of Water In Way Sekampung River, Metro Kibang Lampung Timur The river of Way Sekampung flows from the direction of upstream to downstream river through some area in Lampung especially, the district of eastern and southern district Lampung .Some of the activities of the utilization of the river by the community in all of the upstream of Way Sekampung are sand mining , the outlet of the disposal of liquid waste households, water sources of agricultural activities and other. The enviromental force on river increased because of the waste from various activities distrumbing the utilization of the river. The decline in the environmental changes can be identified from the waters of physical component, chemical and biological factors of the river in the above considerations , the detection of the research needs to be conducted in the river water quality by applying benthos of Sekampung river, Metro Kibang of East Lampung Timur based on the season differences (rain and dry season) the river environment can be managed and maintained the seosan difference for sake of the activity of people and animals as well sustainably as organisms other waters. The methods used in this research is a survey method with different time survey, where the upstream of river Sekampung Way used as research sites .The data obtained by primary data of the measurement of water quality parameters such as physics , chemistry and biology of benthos community. The results of research are 1 ) composition benthos of Way Sekampung, Metro Kibang East Lampung 17 fylum and 61 of genus. 2) Benthos community structure of Way Sekampung, Metro Kibang East Lampung is the as follow: a. the diversity index (H) ranges between 1.12 -2,20 . b. Evenness ( E ) index ranges between 0,63 - 0,99. Dominion ( D ) index ranges between 0.13 -0,46. d. Similarity ( S ) index ranges between 11,76 % -47,05 %. 3 The relationship between the benthos structure and index polution is r= -0,57; the influence of index pollution to benthos index difersity shouwed as Determination value (R= 33%). Way Sekampung Metro Kibang East Lampung based on pollution index has been classified as in good condition until lightly polluted for third class.
