Abstract

Penelitian eksperimen semu ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pendekatan RME terhadap kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 3 Bandar Lampung tahun ajaran 2025/2026 yang terdistribusi ke dalam 9 kelas. Sampel penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII 4 sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas VIII 2 sebagai kelas kontrol, yang dipilih melalui teknik cluster random sampling. Desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah pretest-posttest control group design. Data penelitian berupa data kuantitatif kemampuan komunikasi matematis yang dikumpulkan melalui instrumen tes berbentuk uraian pada materi sistem persamaan linear dua variabel. Analisis data menggunakan uji Mann-Whitney U. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data, diketahui bahwa peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran dengan pendekatan RME lebih tinggi daripada peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran konvensional. Dengan demikian, pendekatan RME berpengaruh terhadap kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa. Kata Kunci: kemampuan komunikasi matematis, pendekatan RME, pengaruh This quasi-experimental study aimed to determine the effect of the RME approach on students’ mathematical communication skills. The population consisted of all eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Bandar Lampung in the 2025/2026 academic year, distributed across nine classes. The sample comprised students of class VIII-4 as the experimental group and class VIII-2 as the control group, selected using a cluster random sampling technique. The research design employed was a pretest–posttest control group design. The data consisted of quantitative measures of mathematical communication skills collected through an essay-based test on the topic of systems of linear equations in two variables. The data were analyzed using the Mann–Whitney U test. Based on the results of the data analysis, it was found that the improvement in the mathematical communication skills of students who participated in learning using the RME approach was higher than that of students who participated in conventional learning. Thus, the RME approach was found to have an effect on students’ mathematical communication skills. Keywords: effect, mathematical communication skills, RME approach
