Abstract

This study aims to determine the correlation between sleep quality and reading comprehension of senior high school students in the context of learning English as a foreign language (EFL) at SMAN 13 Bandar Lampung. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational design. Data on sleep quality were collected through questionnaires, while reading comprehension was measured using tests distributed to 33 eleventh-grade students. The results showed a significant correlation between sleep quality and students’ reading comprehension with a correlation coefficient value of r = 0.467 and a significance value of p = 0.006. This indicates that the correlation between the two variables is positive. It can be concluded that sleep quality is one of the nonlinguistic factors related to students’ reading comprehension skills. Therefore, attention to students’ sleep quality is important in supporting cognitive readiness and success in English learning, especially reading comprehension skills. Keywords: EFL, reading comprehension, sleep quality
