People use vocabulary to construct a sentence to express the idea. By having a lot of vocabularies, people can express more ideas. The mastery of vocabulary is essential in order to construct sentences that contains some messages for social interaction. It is an impossible to learn language without vocabulary. Therefore, English teachers should be able to provide the best method that can improve the students? vocabulary achievement. The researcher tried to propose intensive reading as a method to improve the students? vocabulary achievement. The aim of this research was to find out whether there was a significant improvement of the students? vocabulary achievement after they were taught by using intensive reading. This research was quantitative research which used one group pretest posttest design. The population of this research was the first year of the students of SMA N 1 Pagelaran. The sample of this research was X 3 class which consists of 24 students. The data were analyzed by using t-test formula in SPSS 20.00 for windows. The result of the research showed that there was a significant improvement of the students? vocabulary achievement after they were taught by using intensive reading. It could be seen from the result of the mean score from the pretest to the posttest, which was 64.29 in the pretest and improved to 72.54 in the posttest. The statistical result also proved that the students? scores improved significantly because t table (4.456{\ensuremath{>}}2.068), p{\ensuremath{<}}0.005 (p=0.000). According to the data, it can be concluded that there was a significant improvement of the students? vocabulary achievement from the pretest to the posttest.} }
