Untuk mengetahui kondisi vegetasi dan pakan alami gajah digunakan metode analisis vegetasi garis berpetak. Seratus Sembilan puluh lima spesies yang terdiri dari 102 spesies fase pohon, 100 spesies fase tiang, 74 spesies fase pancang, dan 126 spesies fase semai dan tumbuhan bawah teridentifikasi. Tingkat penguasaan yang tinggi di kanan-kiri jalan Sanggi-Bengkunat terdapat pada Alseodaphne falcata (INP 75,83%) dan Litsea sp (INP 26,29%) pada fase pohon, Aglaia sp (INP 26,473%) dan Clerodendron sp (INP 15,208 %) pada fase tiang, Archidendron bubalinum (INP 12.79%) dan Eugenia sp (INP 17,33%) pada fase pancang, Clerodendron sp (INP 12,23%) dan Aglaia odoratusima (INP 7,46%) pada fase semai. Tumbuhan bawah dikuasai oleh Selaginella plana (INP 19,12% dan INP 13,31%) dan Globba sp (INP 17,51% dan INP 12,05%). Dari 195 spesies yang ditemui, 45 spesies merupakan pakan alami gajah sumatera, terdiri dari 19 spesies tumbuhan bawah dan 26 spesies pohon. Alseodaphne falcate has highest IVI (75,83%) and Litsea sp (IVI 26,29%) of tree stage, followed by Aglaia sp (IVI 26,473%) and Clerodendron sp (IVI 15,208 %) in pole stage, Archidendron bubalinum (IVI 12.79%) and Eugenia sp (IVI 17,33%) for sapling and Clerodendron sp (IVI 12,23%) and Aglaia odoratusima (IVI 7,46%) for seedling. Undergrowth were Selaginella plana (IVI 19,12% and IVI 13,31%) and Globba sp (IVI 17,51% dan IVI 12,05%). Of 195 plant species 45 species as natural food plant for Sumatran elephant.
