Based on the writer?s teaching experience at SMK Negeri 1 Bandar Lampung, it was found that the students still have difficulties in reading. Therefore, the writer employed Cloze Procedure as a technique to improve the students? reading achievement and their participation in learning. The subject of this research is the students of the first year of SMK Negeri 1 Bandar Lampung, class X (ten) TKJ. The research was conducted from March 23rd until April 4th 2011. A classroom action research was carried out in order to improve students? reading achievement by using Cloze Procedure in English reading class. The result of the research shows that Cloze Procedure improves the students? reading achievement.There were two indicators that were used in this research, i.e. learning product and learning process. In term of learning product, there are 75\% students who passed the score of 60, as the passing grade. Meanwhile, it was also found that there were 80\% students who were actively involved during the lesson in the first cycle. In the second cycle, there were 77.27\% students who reached the passing grade. It was found that there were 80.83\% students who actively involved during the teaching learning was conducted. Based on the data, it can be concluded that there is an improvement of the students? reading achievement after being taught using Cloze Procedure. Therefore, Cloze Procedure is recommended to be used by English teachers to improve their students? reading achievement and the participation in learning. However, since students have opportunity to interact in discussion, the teacher should pay careful attention to overcome the noisy class.} }
