"The objectives of this research were to find out whether SQ3R Technique can be\r\nused to increase the students’ involvement in reading activity of narrative text, the\r\nteacher’s performance in teaching reading of narrative text and students’ reading\r\ncomprehension achievement. To see the increase of the teaching learning process\r\nincluding the teacher’s performance, the qualitative data was used (observation\r\nsheet). Meanwhile, quantitative data (students’ reading comprehension score) was\r\nused to know the students’ achievement in reading comprehension (learning\r\nproduct). \r\nThe subject of the research was first year students of SMAN 1 Punggur. A\r\nclassroom action research was carried out in order to increase students’ reading\r\ncomprehension after using SQ3R Technique in reading class. This Classroom\r\nAction Research (CAR) was done in two cycles. Each cycle consists of planning,\r\nacting, observing, and reflecting. The indicators of the research success are if 80%\r\nstudents actively involved in the learning process, the teacher gets score 80 or\r\nmore from each aspect of SQ3R Technique and 80% students can gain score 63 or\r\nmore in reading comprehension test.\r\nThe results of the research were:\r\n1. In cycle 1, most of the students were active during the teaching and \r\nlearning process. But the teacher could not gain the target score (average\r\nscore: 74.3) and the students’ score also could not achieve the indicator\r\n(only 17 students (47.22%) who got score 63 or more).\r\n2. In cycle 2, the students were also active during the teaching and learning\r\nprocess. Both the results of the teacher’s observation sheet and learning\r\nproduct (reading comprehension achievement) could achieve the target in\r\nthis cycle. The teacher got average score 81.5 for her teaching\r\nperformance. Meanwhile, there were 34 students (94.44%) who got score\r\n63 or more.\r\nReferring to the finding of the research, it can be said that SQ3R Technique can be\r\nused to increase the students’ involvement in reading activity of narrative text, the\r\nteacher’s performance in teaching reading of narrative text and the students’\r\nreading comprehension achievement.
