Produk ini dihasilkan dari reaksi hidrolisis\r\nminyak atau lemak dengan air.\r\nKebutuhan asam stearat yang meningkat dari tahun ke tahun ditunjukkan\r\ndengan meningkatnya impor Indonesia terhadap asam stearat. Sehingga\r\npembangunan pabrik Aseton sangat diperlukan untuk mendukung perkembangan\r\nindustri di dalam negeri.\r\nAsam Stearat diproduksi dengan cara mareaksikan stearine dan air di\r\ndalam Reaktor alir berpengaduk (CSTR) pada suhu 260oC dan tekanan 47,6 atm .\r\nHasil keluaran reaktor berupa cairan asam stearat, asam oleat, gliserol, air dan\r\nunreacted stearine dipisahkan lagi dengan proses dekantasi. Campuran asam\r\nstearat, asam oleat dan unreacted stearine dimurnikan lagi dalam kolom distilasi,\r\nlalu kemudian dilakukan pemisahan antara asam stearat dengan asam oleat dengan\r\nproses solvent cryatallization. Gliserol dan air sebagai hasil reaksi samping\r\ndimurnikan lagi sampai kemurnian 67%.\r\nKapasitas produksi pabrik direncanakan 20.000 ton/tahun dengan 330 hari\r\nkerja dalam 1 tahun. Lokasi pabrik direncanakan didirikan di daerah Jambi yang\r\nterletak di Kecamatan Teluk Sialang, Jambi.
