It is a primary skill which should be mastered by the learners before they acquire language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. To succeed in learning English, learners must have plenty of vocabularies. By mastering a lot of vocabularies, learner should beable to develop language easily. However, students who lackvocabulary might face various problems in learning English. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to explore students? vocabulary size in SMAN 15 Bandar Lampung and to investigate the differences of vocabulary size between level 1 and level 2. Level 1 and Level 2 were chosen because the words frequently appeared in English spoken and written text from English vocabulary size level. T-test design was used in this study.The subject were67 students of the first year. The data were collected through subjective vocabulary test. The result showedthat majority of the students (50\%) in SMAN 15 Bandar Lampung were unfamiliar with the words of subjective vocabulary test for both level 1 and level 2. It was indicated by students? low vocabulary mean score (834 of 2000). This suggests that students SMAN 15 Bandar Lampung mastery on vocabulary 2000 wordlist was unsatisfactory in the sense that students need to find an appropriate learning strategy in order to increase their vocabulary size.
