description: ABSTRAK  Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengkaji metode hidrolisis yang paling sesuai pada  umbi talas beneng sebagai upaya optimalisasi produksi bioetanol dari umbi talas  beneng dengan mempelajari pengaruh tiga variable yakni pH, waktu, dan suhu  terhadap gula reduksi yang dihasilkan. Kadar gula reduksi yang dihasilkan  ditentukan menggunakan spektrofotometer UV-Vis. Hasil penelitian  menunjukkan bahwa kondisi optimum hidrolisis terjadi pada pH 2, waktu  hidrolisis 3 jam, dan suhu 90oC dengan kadar gula reduksi yang dihasilkan sebesar  910,875 mg/L. Uji fermentasi hidrolisat menggunakan serbuk kulit kayu raru  menghasilkan bioetanol sebesar 0,18765 % (v/v), sedangkan uji fermentasi  hidrolisat menggunakan Saccharomyces cerevisiae menghasilkan bioetanol  sebesar 0,2116% (v/v).  Kata kunci: umbi talas beneng, hidrolisis, gula reduksi, bioetanol, kayu raru,  Saccharomyces cerevisiae  ABSTRACT  This study was conducted to assess the most appropriate method or hydrolysis of  beneng taro tuber to optimize the production of bioethanol, with the purpose to  investigate the effect of pHs, times, and temperatures on reducing sugar  produced. The concentration of reducing sugar was determined using UV-Vis  spectrophotometer. The result obtained indicated that the optimum amount of  reducing sugar (910,875 mg/L ) was achieved at pH 2, hydrolysis time of 3 hours  and temperature of 90oC. Fermentation of reducing sugar using the powdered  bark of raru plant produced 0,18765 % (v/v) of bioethanol and fermentation using  Saccharomyces cerevisiae produced 0,2116% (v/v) of bioethanol.
