READING COMPREHENSION ABILITY IN THE FIRST GRADE OF SMP PGRI 1 GUNUNG PELINDUNG, EAST LAMPUNG %X ABSTRACT The aim of the research is to find out whether there is a significant positive correlation between students? reading habit in English and their reading comprehension ability. This research is quantitative descriptive. The population of this research was the students of the first grade of SMP PGRI 1 Gunung Pelindung, East Lampung in academic year 2015/2016. The sample of this research was VII A. The research design was ex post facto design; the researcher did not give treatment, but collecting the data by seeing the correlation between cause and effect. The instruments were questionnaire and reading test. The researcher analyzed the correlation using Pearson?s Product Moment Formula to determine the correlation between reading habit in English (variable X) and reading comprehension ability (variable Y). The result of analysis shows that there is a positive significant correlation between students? reading habit in English and their reading comprehension ability. It can be seen from the analysis by using Pearson Product Moment Correlation, the result shows that the t-observed is 0.642 and t-table is 0.349. It means that t-value is higher than t-table that H1 is accepted and Ho is rejected. The result can be concluded that there is a positive significant correlation between students? reading habit in English and their reading comprehension ability in the first grade of SMP PGRI 1 Gunung Pelindung, East Lampung academic year 2015/2016.
