"Reading is one of the most important skills that should be mastered by the\r\nstudents who learn English. In teaching foreign language, the teacher is obliged\r\nto choose interesting materials to increase students’ reading interest. In this\r\nresearch, authentic material was believed to increase students’ reading\r\ncomprehension of high and low proficiency students. Therefore this study aimed\r\nto find out the significant difference of students’ reading comprehension\r\nbetween high and low proficiency level students who were taught through\r\nauthentic material, to find out the aspects of reading skills that mostly influenced\r\nby the students in reading comprehension through authentic material and to\r\nsee students’ perception of teaching and learning through authentic material.\r\nThis research was conducted at the eleventh grade of SMAN 3 Bandar Lampung.\r\nThe data were collected by using multiple choice tests and questionnaires. The\r\npopulation of this research was the eleventh grade of SMAN 3 Bandar Lampung.\r\nThe samples were the students of XI IPA 2 chosen by using purposive sampling.\r\nThe data of this research were analyzed by using SPSS.\r\nThe result of the research showed that there was significant difference of\r\nstudents’ reading comprehension between high and low proficiency level\r\nstudents who were taught through authentic material. The t-value on Sig. (2-\r\ntailed) was .000 in both high and low proficiency level students which means that\r\nsig. < α. Finding inference was the aspect of reading that mostly influenced\r\nreading comprehension in high proficiency level students while finding\r\nsupporting details was the aspect that mostly influenced in low proficiency\r\nlevel students. Moreover, the high proficiency level and low proficiency level\r\nstudents have a positive perception in teaching and learning through authentic\r\nmaterial. It can be concluded that authentic material can be used in high and low\r\nproficiency level students.
