L. hemprichii memiliki warna menarik sehingga menjadikan nilai ekonomis tinggi. Warna tersebut dihasilkan dari alga simbion yang memiliki pigmen seperti karotenoid. Pigmen karotenoid berperan aktif menyerap cahaya dalam proses fotosintetik alga simbion. Penelitian ini bertujuan memperoleh pengaruh perbedaan intensitas cahaya terhadap gradasi warna merah dan kandungan karotenoid L. hemprichii. Penelitian dilakukan dengan menempatkan L. hemprichii ke dalam akuarium perlakuan ICR (Intensitas Cahaya Rendah=1514 Lux), Perlakuan ICS (Intensitas Cahaya Sedang = 3028 Lux), perlakuan ICR (Intensitas Cahaya Tinggi = 4547 Lux). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa intensitas cahaya berpengaruh terhadap gradasi warna karang L. hemprichii dan intensitas cahaya berpengaruh terhadap konsentrasi pigmen total karotenoid L. hempirchii. Intensitas cahaya paling baik untuk warna L. hempirchii dan produksi pigmen karotenoid yaitu intensitas cahaya tinggi (4547 Lux). Kata kunci : alga simbion, cahaya, fotosintetik, karotenoid. ABSTRACT L. hemprichii is a hard coral species, has symbiotic mutualism with algae symbionts, which lives in sea waters at the depth of 5-9 meters. L. hemprichii has attractive colors that make it has high economic value. The color is produced from algae symbionts that have pigments such as carotenoids. Carotenoid pigments play an active role in absorbing light in the process of photosynthetic algae symbionts. The aims of this study were to gain different effects of light intensity to color gradation of red and carotenoids content of L. hemprichii. The study was conducted by placing L. hemprichii into aquriums with ICR treatment (Low Light Intensity = 1514 Lux), ICS treatment (Medium Light Intensity = 3028 Lux), treatment ICR (High Light Intensity = 4547 Lux). The results showed that the light intensity affect the color gradation of coral L. hemprichii and light intensity affect the concentration of total carotenoid pigment L. hempirchii. The best light intensity for L. hempirchii color and carotenoid pigment production was high light intensity (4547 Lux). Keywords : algae symbionts, carotenoid, light, photosynthetic. } }
