This research was a quantitative research which used a one group pretest-posttest design. The population of this research was the first grade students of SMA N 13 Bandar Lampung in the second semester of academic year 2016/2017. The research took one class as the sample and it was X MIPA 1 which consisted of 35 students. A writing test of recount text was applied to collect the data. The data were analyzed by using repeated measure T-test in which the significance was determined by p<0.05. The result of this research showed that the t-value (10.389) was higher than t-table (2.032) and the value of significant level was 0.000<0.05. It means that there was an improvement in students’ recount text writing ability after the implementation of guiding question technique and the aspect of writing that improved the most after the implementation of the technique was content aspect of writing since the percentage of this aspect improved up to 3.28. Briefly, referring to the results above, it can be concluded that guiding question technique can be applied to improve students’ ability in recount text writing.
